Canada Invited 2,000 Eligible Immigrants

Canada invited a total of 2000 potential immigrants to apply for Canadian PR through the Express Entry Draw conducted on 3rd August 2022. The minimum CRS score requirement for this draw was 533. This draw was not targeted to a specific group so CEC and FSW category candidates were eligible to apply under this draw.

Going by the trends, it can be observed that the required CRS cut-off was 9 points lower than the previous draw, held on July 20, and also the numbers of invitations were 250 more than the last draw.

Since the restart of all-program drawings on July 6, IRCC is looking positive to inviting more and more skilled individuals. Since July 6, a total of 5,250 Express Entry applicants have been invited by the IRCC. Canada further intends to accept 55,900 permanent residents through Express Entry in 2022, with the number rapidly increasing to 111,500 by the end of 2024.

Due to a halt in Express Entry draw invitations for CEC class applicants between September 2021 and July 2022, the work permit expired for nearly thousands of PGWP holders. They were even unable to apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOPW) while waiting for IRCC to finish their permanent residence application since they did not have CEC invites. However, to improve the situation, IRCC stated yesterday that expired PGWP holders would be eligible to renew their open work permit status for an extra one and half years. It will further assist these applicants in their transition to permanent residency by allowing them to continue working while they wait.

Owing to the pandemic and seeing the rough situation for international students who were forced to complete their educational programs online between March 2020 and August 2022, IRCC has stated that these students can include schooling completed online as part of their academic qualifications while uploading their online Express Entry profile. It only means that they will be eligible to include their learning credentials as part of their total CRS score.

Express Entry is an online application management system to target three economic class immigration categories i.e., the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Candidates looking for provincial nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in the Express Entry pool are already eligible for at least one of these programs.

The Express Entry system is used to rank candidates’ profiles using a point-based mechanism known as the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Candidates with the highest scores are given an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and can subsequently apply for permanent residence. Later on, the application is evaluated by an IRCC official.

When the application is granted, the applicant receives a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR). Once the applicants have their CoPR, they can land in Canada and become permanent residents of Canada.
